Overview

The engineering department at Kinetics (my previous employer) designs high-purity process and mechanical systems, i.e. hazardous chemicals and ultra-pure waters. These systems can range in size and complexity anywhere from the internal valving of a single piece of equipment to the flow and monitoring across an entire campus.

On the occasions when a coordinated model was part of the deliverable, sometimes it required an extra dose of creativity to get a project out the door.

Process

With most of their clients in the semiconductor or biopharmaceutical industry, money was often less a concern than schedule, so I rebuilt their workflow around speed and adaptability.

In addition to building extremely robust parts libraries, I wrote software, CAD manuals, and training documentation. I laser scanned sites, converted scanned equipment into digital models (forming an ‘augmented design’ environment), and used photos to recreate rooms. I climbed 30’ ladders, descended into cabling tunnels, and crawled around in cleanroom ceilings (in a full bunny suit) to get a better understanding of a problem. Whatever it took.
